Symphony No. 1 Mozart

Symphony No. 1, “Titan“ Mahler

Mozart and Mahler were both known for performing and conducting at the time of their first symphonies. Mozart, a child prodigy, toured Europe playing for royalty, and Mahler was a well known conductor who would go on to conduct major orchestras of Europe and the New York Philharmonic.

Mozart’s Symphony No. 1 was written in 1764 when he was just eight years old. This simple but melodic three-movement work was the first of over 40 symphonies Mozart wrote in his lifetime.

Mahler wrote his first symphony, the “Titan,” in 1888, while working at the Leipzig Opera as a kapellmeister. The orchestra is larger than a classical orchestra, doubling the winds and brass. This makes for a brilliant and full sound, especially at the end of the symphony.
