FMU Concert Choir and Voice Collective

Mainstage 201 S Dargan St, Florence, SC

Open to all university students, the University Concert Choir has an average enrollment of between 35 and 45 students. This group has sung in numerous area churches and has also performed with the Florence Symphony Orchestra. They have performed such major choral works as the “Polovetzian Dance and Chorus” of Alexander Borodin, the “Schicksalslied” of Johannes Brahms, and the Ninth Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven.

FMU Jazz Combo

The FMU Jazz Combo allows students in a small group setting to learn and hone improvisational skills within the the jazz idiom. Works have been selected from music by Corea, Glasper, Shorter, and more.

Black Violin

Mainstage 201 S Dargan St, Florence, SC

Black Violin returns to the FMU PAC for the first time since their sold out performance in 2018. The Grammy-nominated group consists of members Kevin Sylvester and Wilner Baptiste, who use their classical instruments to create a unique fusion of classical strings with hip hop. First appearing on the music scene in 2004, Black Violin gained traction as a live music group, performing with the likes of Alicia Keys, Wu-Tang Clan and Mike Shionda of rock band Linkin Park. The famed duo eventually began recording and releasing original music a few years later. Now, with seven chart-topping albums – two of which were self-published – Black Violin is a major player in the classical music and hip hop communities.

Florence Symphony Orchestra presents “Holiday Pops”

Craig Hultgren, cello

Craig Hultgren, an American cellist and improvisor, has long been an activist for new music. More than 200 works have been composed for him by contemporary composers, including works for the electric cello and multi-media works.

Mackenzie Melemed, piano

American pianist Mackenzie Melemed’s international career continues to flourish. Praised by the New York Times as an "excellent young pianist" Melemed, a Steinway Artist, has performed in venues such as The White House (2004-2008), Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, and the Helsinki Music Centre.
